When we first acquired The Savage House, we embarked on a room-by-room exploration, envisioning the purpose of each space. The guest room was always intended to be just that—a

welcoming haven for visitors. Its layout, with a somewhat awkward configuration, a modest closet, and a quirky roofline, made it less suitable as a primary bedroom. Moreover, its initial state, with green carpets and walls adorned in green and pink floral wallpaper, clearly demanded our attention before it could be transformed into the serene guest retreat we envisioned.

Before we even moved into the house, we had one goal in mind—to make at least one room truly feel like our own. Surprisingly, that room turned out to be the soon-to-be guest room, primarily because the wallpaper peeled off with remarkable ease. Thus began our journey of peeling wallpaper, tearing up the carpet, giving the plaster the much-needed TLC it deserved, and applying a swift coat of wall paint. These seemingly simple tasks breathed new life into the room, providing us with a cozy space away from the construction chaos that enveloped the rest of our home.

Once we completed the renovation of our multi-purpose room, we decided to relocate our bed there, making way for the long-awaited transformation of the guest room. This room had been patiently waiting for its makeover, and we were determined to give it the attention it deserved. The floors were the first to receive our care, followed by a fresh application of our beloved 'Dove' paint color on the walls. We also upgraded the closet system, ensuring it was both functional and visually appealing.

With the foundational work complete, we turned our attention to decorating the guest room. Opting for a neutral palette with subtle maroon accents, we discovered a beautiful quilt at Target (although, sadly, it's no longer available) and paired it with a simple white duvet from IKEA. We scoured secondhand stores and estate sales, where we stumbled upon a magnificent 19th-century mahogany dresser that instantly became the room's centerpiece. As we continue our quest for unique pieces, both old and new, the guest room continues to evolve.

Our search for the perfect night tables, a versatile table that can double as a TV stand, and additional artwork is ongoing. Nevertheless, we're immensely pleased with how our guest room has transformed into a welcoming and serene space. Join us on our journey as we add the final touches and infuse even more character into this lovely room.
